Biography
Gottsha, born Sandra Maria Braga Gottlieb in Rio de Janeiro, is a prominent Brazilian singer, actress, and voice dubber who made history in the mid-1990s as the first Brazilian singer to release an entirely English-language album composed exclusively by Brazilian songwriters and recorded in Brazil. Her debut album, "No One to Answer" (1994), achieved international acclaim, reaching airwaves in around fifty countries and earning critical recognition for its high-energy eurodance sound. Hits like the title track and "Break Out" solidified her presence in dance music, with her music videos receiving heavy rotation on MTV Brasil and charting among the year's best.
Beyond her thriving recording career, Gottsha established herself as a leading figure in Brazilian musical theater, collaborating frequently with renowned directors such as Charles Möeller and Cláudio Botelho. Her professional stage debut came in 1997 with the hit musical "As Malvadas," followed by celebrated performances in productions like "Cole Porter - Ele Nunca Disse que Me Amava," for which she won the Prêmio Qualidade Brasil for Revelation Actress in 2000, and "Tudo É Jazz!". Her theatrical versatility also extended to television and film, where she memorably voiced the character Roz in the Portuguese-language dub of Disney's "Monsters, Inc." and took on acting roles in popular Rede Globo telenovelas such as "Celebridade" and "Senhora do Destino."
Throughout her career, Gottsha has successfully bridged the gap between electronic dance music, television acting, and theatrical performance, receiving honors such as the Medalha de Mérito Cultural Tomé de Souza in 2006. She continued to lend her distinctive vocals to television soundtracks, including contributions to the international editions of telenovela themes like "Cobras e Lagartos" and "Ti Ti Ti," alongside stage revivals like "The Rocky Horror Show." Her enduring contributions to Brazilian pop culture place her alongside notable musical theater and crossover artists of her generation.
