Biography

O Grito Mudo was a Brazilian avant-garde musical group, active mainly between 1985 and 1990, which stood out in the post-punk and industrial scene of Belo Horizonte. The band did not fit into traditional punk rock, proposing a more experimental sound, with the use of synthesizers, electronic beats, and poetic elements in their performances.

The group was part of an underground artistic and musical movement in the capital of Minas Gerais, sharing the scene with other relevant projects of the time, such as Divergência Socialista, R. Mutt, Ida & os Voltas, and Albânia Berg. The musical context of Belo Horizonte in the 80s was widely dominated by heavy metal, with names like Sepultura gaining international projection. In contrast, O Grito Mudo represented a more experimental and avant-garde strand.

One of the notable members of O Grito Mudo was the musician, poet, and performer Verner, who acted on vocals, keyboards, bass, and drum machine programming. The band's musical output circulated mainly in independent cassette tape circuits and rare compilations. Among their recordings, the track "Mulata Urbana" stands out.
