Biography

Grupo Acaba is an important roots regional music collective founded in 1969 in the Pantanal, with the purpose of researching, developing, and disseminating the folklore and culture of the region encompassing the former State of Mato Grosso and the current Mato Grosso do Sul. Composed of independent professionals and business owners who act in a semi-professional capacity, the group has built a solid trajectory focused on the appreciation of the Pantanal resident, its fauna, flora, and traditions, standing out as a pioneer in environmental and cultural activism in defense of local biodiversity.

Throughout more than three decades of artistic activities, the ensemble has participated in significant milestones of Brazilian music, such as the Pixingão Project promoted by Funarte in Rio de Janeiro and prominently featured national festivals. In 1992, the group gained projection by winning awards at the ECO-MS Festival with the song "Rancho do Jaú", which guaranteed them the representation of Mato Grosso do Sul at Eco-92, taking the art and musical culture of the Pantanal to the Global Forum. In addition, they have collaborated with prominent names in the country's musical scene, such as singer Tetê Espíndola and maestro João Guilherme Ripper.

The discography and legacy of Grupo Acaba reflect deep anthropological and musical research work, including striking albums such as the self-titled release by the record label Discos Marcus Pereira in 1979 and the ambitious box set "Mato Grosso do Som", the result of a regional musical mapping project. Integrated by names such as Vandir Nunes Barreto and José Charbel Filho, the group keeps the essence of the Pantanal sound alive through concerts, educational projects, and partnerships with symphonic orchestras.
