Biography

The Lesbian Feminist Action Group (GALF) was a pioneering organization in the lesbian women's movement in Brazil, operating mainly in the 1980s. Officially founded in October 1981 in São Paulo by activists such as Míriam Martinho and Rosely Roth, GALF emerged from the need for an autonomous space for discussions and actions focused on lesbian issues, following experiences in broader collectives such as the SOMOS Group. The group stood out for producing informative materials and organizing events aimed at the visibility and strengthening of the lesbian community.

Among GALF's main achievements, the publication of the "Chanacomchana" bulletin stands out, which addressed specific themes of the lesbian and female universe, and later "Um Outro Olhar". The group was also responsible for striking actions, such as the demonstration in front of Ferro's Bar in 1983, a protest against the ban on selling their bulletin in a space frequented by lesbians. This action became a milestone in the fight against discrimination and for lesbian visibility in the country.

GALF formally ended its activities in March 1990, after nearly a decade of intense activity. Its trajectory is fundamental for understanding the history of the LGBTQIA+ movement in Brazil, especially regarding the organization and demands of lesbian women. The group's work contributed significantly to social awareness and the achievement of rights, leaving an important legacy for future generations of activists and for collective memory.
