Grupo Batuque is a dynamic and evolving samba collective that emerged from the vibrant musical landscape of Rio de Janeiro. Assembled by Joe Davis of Far Out Recordings, the group is renowned for bringing together a constellation of veteran Brazilian percussionists, drummers, and musicians. Its formation in 1996, during the energetic atmosphere of Carnival, led to the release of their debut album, "Samba de Rua," which captured the raw essence of street samba and Carnival festivities. The collective's strength lies in its fluid membership, often featuring renowned artists such as Ivan Conti, Wilson das Neves, Dom Chacal, and Robertinho Silva, among many others, creating a rich tapestry of percussive talent.
