Grupo Essência emerged in Goiânia, Goiás, in 1985, quickly establishing itself as a significant force in the Brazilian music scene. The band's musical journey began with the release of their first album in 1989, which featured the hit "Emoções Gerais," a song that garnered first place at both the Araxá and Ituiutaba festivals. This early success was followed by other notable tracks like "Sonho Veloz" and "Abraço e Beijo," which achieved considerable airplay on local radio stations, solidifying their presence in the national music landscape.

Over the years, Grupo Essência continued to evolve, releasing a second album in 2006. The group's sound is characterized by a rich blend of influences, drawing inspiration from the distinctive "Minas Gerais sound" of Milton Nascimento and Lô Borges's Clube da Esquina, as well as the vibrant music of Northeastern artists like Dori Caymmi, Lenine, and Gilberto Gil. This diverse palette also incorporates elements from popular Brazilian vocal groups such as 14 Bis, Boca Livre, MPB4, and A Cor do Som, alongside the classic rock sounds of international bands like Crosby, Stills & Nash, The Beatles, Genesis, and Yes.

The members of Grupo Essência, including Alberto Cabral, Reny Cruvinel, and Romero Fonseca, contribute a dynamic range of talents. Their performances often feature three distinct vocalists, complemented by guitars and wind instruments like the flute and harmonica.
