Biography

Grupo Manifesto was a vocal and instrumental group formed in 1965 in Rio de Janeiro, bringing together talents who would later stand out in Brazilian music. The original lineup featured Gracinha Leporace, Lucinha (later known as Lucina), Junaldo, Augusto César Pinheiro, José Renato Filho, Gutemberg Guarabyra, Guto Graça Melo, Mariozinho Rocha, and Fernando Leporace. The group had a short yet remarkable artistic career, active for about three years in the musical scene.

During its existence, Grupo Manifesto hosted the program series "O mundo é nosso" on TV Continental (RJ) and caught the attention of Aloysio de Oliveira, artistic director of the Elenco label, part of Philips, who signed them. In 1967, the group participated in the II International Song Festival with "Margarida", a composition by Gutemberg Guarabyra, which won first place in the national phase and third in the international one. Gracinha Leporace was awarded best interpreter in the national phase of the festival.

Grupo Manifesto released two LPs: "Manifesto musical" (1967) and "Grupo Manifesto nº 2" (1968). The first album included hits like "Margarida", "Manifesto" (Guto Graça Melo and Mariozinho Rocha), and "O mundo é nosso" (Fernando Leporace and Mariozinho Rocha). The second LP featured songs like "Maria redentora" and "Garoto Paissandu", both by Mariozinho Rocha. The albums were later re-released on CD by the PolyGram label, keeping alive the work of this important MPB group.
