Biography
Guadalupe Mendonça, known mononymously as Guadalupe, is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, and producer. Her artistic journey began in Recife, Pernambuco, where she participated in television programs from a young age. Despite initial parental opposition to her pursuing a career in the arts, Guadalupe moved to São Paulo at 18, working as a model and in musical theater before relocating to Rio de Janeiro.
Her career in music gained significant traction in the late 1970s when she was invited to perform in a show with the renowned Dominguinhos and Nara Leão. This encounter marked the beginning of a deep personal and professional relationship with Dominguinhos, whom she married in 1980. Their daughter, Liv Moraes, also became a singer. Guadalupe's debut album, "Princesa do meu lugar," was released in 1980, featuring collaborations with prominent artists and showcasing her talent in interpreting diverse musical styles.
Throughout her career, Guadalupe has released several albums, including "Rubi grená" in 1987, and has continued to be active as a performer and producer. She also ventured into acting, participating in the telenovela "Maçã do Amor." Her enduring connection to Brazilian music is evident in her work, which often reflects the rich traditions of Northeastern Brazil, and her collaborations with artists like Dominguinhos, Toquinho, and Fagner highlight her significant contribution to the genre.
