Biography

Guttemberg Nery Guarabyra Filho, known simply as Guarabyra, is a prominent Brazilian musician, composer, writer, and poet born in Barra, Bahia, in 1947. Growing up in the São Francisco Valley region, he later moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1966 to launch his artistic career. His early breakthrough came in 1967 when he won the national phase of the II International Song Festival with his song "Margarida". Throughout his career, he has collaborated with notable artists such as Luiz Carlos Sá, Zé Rodrix, and Flávio Venturini, shaping the landscape of Brazilian popular music.

In 1971, Guarabyra joined forces with Luiz Carlos Sá and Zé Rodrix to form the influential trio Sá, Rodrix e Guarabyra, helping define the acoustic and progressive folk sounds of the era. Following Zé Rodrix's departure in 1973, Guarabyra continued as a duo with Sá under the moniker Sá e Guarabyra, before the original trio reunited decades later for performances at Rock in Rio III and subsequent recordings. Alongside his musical achievements, he has worked as a television producer, columnist, and published fiction writer, contributing significantly to Brazilian culture.
