Biography

Guilherme Arantes is a renowned Brazilian singer, songwriter, and pianist born in São Paulo. He began his musical journey in the 1970s as a keyboardist and vocalist for the progressive rock band Moto Perpétuo before launching a highly successful solo career. Known for his exceptional melodic sensibility, he has established himself as one of the country's most prolific hitmakers, writing enduring classics that have been performed by legendary interpreters such as Elis Regina, Caetano Veloso, and Maria Bethânia.

Throughout his career, Arantes has played a pivotal role in shaping Brazilian pop and rock music, notably introducing elements of the new wave genre to the country in the early 1980s with tracks like "Perdidos na Selva." His compositions have been featured extensively in Brazilian telenovela soundtracks, and he achieved record-breaking royalty collections during the 1980s. Celebrated for his virtuosity on the piano, he is among the select Brazilian pianists inducted into the Steinway & Sons hall of fame.

In addition to his commercial achievements, Arantes has consistently released critically acclaimed material, including his award-winning 2013 album Condição Humana and later works like A Desordem dos Templários. His distinctive style has influenced subsequent generations of Brazilian artists ranging from MPB singer Vanessa da Mata to rapper Mano Brown. Operating out of his studio in Bahia, he remains a central figure in the history of Brazilian popular music.
