Biography

Gujo Teixeira, born Paulo Henrique Teixeira de Souza in Porto Alegre, is a prominent Brazilian poet, lyricist, veterinarian, and cattle rancher associated with regional music from Rio Grande do Sul. Graduating from the Federal University of Santa Maria, he established his life and creative base in Lavras do Sul, where he balances agricultural production with writing poetry and song lyrics deeply rooted in the rural traditions of southern Brazil. Over a career spanning more than three decades in native festivals ("festivais nativistas"), he has participated in hundreds of events as a composer and judge, accumulating over 700 recorded compositions and numerous accolades.

His extensive body of work includes celebrated regional classics such as "Batendo Água," "Quando o Verso Vem Pras Casa," and "Pra o Meu Consumo," which have been recorded by various notable interpreters of gaucho music. Alongside his musical output, Gujo has released numerous albums and published a substantial collection of poetry books, including titles like "Sétimas de Mundaréu" and "Pitangas," the latter of which features readings by artists such as Gaúcho da Fronteira, Evandro Mesquita, and Marcos Palmeira. His contributions to regional culture have earned him significant recognition, including the Açorianos Music Award in the Regional category and the Vitor Mateus Teixeira (Teixeirinha) Award for best composer.
