Biography

Gustavo Benjão is a Brazilian musician, singer, songwriter, and music producer born in Rio de Janeiro. With a degree in Graphic Design, Benjão has carved out a multifaceted path in music, being part of prominent bands in the Rio scene such as Abayomy Afrobeat Orquestra and the group Do Amor. His versatility has led him to accompany renowned artists such as Moreno Veloso, Rodrigo Amarante, Thais Gulin, Nina Becker, and Lucas Santtana, demonstrating his ability to move across different sounds and styles.

In 2015, Gustavo Benjão released his first solo album, "Hardcore Nêgo", an original work featuring guest appearances by Ava Rocha, Alice Caymmi, Kassin, Pedro Sá, and André Abujamra. This record was described as a mixture of brega, afro, nagô, punk, northeastern, and rock, reflecting the artist's diverse influences. In 2022, he released "Axé", a conceptual album that explores the various facets of Brazil, ranging from celebration and faith to social wounds and oppression, featuring songs like "Terror antiopressor" and "Hiago", which tells the story of the death of a young Black man.

More recently, in 2024, Benjão presented "Afruzz", an instrumental album that delves into the tones and effects of African guitars, exploring his side as a guitarist and multi-instrumentalist. The work, released by the YB Music label, demonstrates his continuous pursuit of sound experimentation and his ability to create musical landscapes that evoke reflection and feeling, even without the use of lyrics.
