Biography
Gustavo Carvalho is a Brazilian musician, arranger, composer, and musical producer, born in Rio de Janeiro on June 12, 1964. He began his musical career in 1977, at the age of 13, with the rock trio OPS, which later expanded into the quintet OPUS-6, featuring the participation of guitarist Torcuato Mariano. His musical training includes double bass studies with Cláudia Niemeyer.
In 1981, he moved to Salvador, where he collaborated with various local groups and recorded albums with Djalma Oliveira and Rui Mattos, in addition to performing with other artists. In 1984, he joined the band Dimetal and, the following year, founded the instrumental group Bagage. His career includes participation in various music festivals, and in 1988, he joined the group Rabo de Saia. In 1989, he was awarded Best Arrangement at a festival in Pouso Alegre, alongside Elder Costa and Maurício Brandão.
Alongside Elder Costa and Maurício Brandão, he founded the group Habeas Porcos, which later became Toque de Midas. With this band, he released the CDs "Toque de Midas" (1992), "Toque de Midas" (1994) – nominated for the Sharp Award for Best Rock Band – and "Todo Mundo" (1997). In 2006, he released his acclaimed instrumental solo CD "Arquipélago", which received praise for its sound and inspiration, often being associated with "jazz rock". The album "Arquipélago" features guest appearances by renowned musicians such as Milton Nascimento, Jessé Sadoc, Torcuato Mariano, Marcelo Martins, Marcos Nimrichter, and Marco Lobo.
