Biography

Gustavo Pontes Barreira, known professionally as Gustavo Macacko, is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, instrumentalist, and cultural producer born on January 24, 1976. Though registered in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, he was born in São Simão, Goiás. His parents were from the Northeast region of Brazil, and he later graduated in Social Communication with a focus on Advertising and Propaganda from the Federal University of Espírito Santo (UFES). In 2011, he relocated to Rio de Janeiro.

Macacko's musical career began in the 2000s when he was part of the band Símios, releasing three albums of original music with them between 2000 and 2007. He also conceptualized and led the percussion group Bloco Bleque, undertaking three European tours, including performances at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland and Bastille Day celebrations in France. In 2013, he participated in the "Brasicalata Tour" in Italy with Bloco Bleque and released a children's album titled "O Macaco e a Baleia para crianças de todas as idades."

As a solo artist, Gustavo Macacko released his debut album "Macaco, Chiquinho e o Cavalo" in 2010. His work often blends various musical styles and themes, reflecting his diverse influences. He has collaborated with notable Brazilian artists such as Gabriel o Pensador and Otto, further cementing his presence in the Brazilian music scene. Macacko's artistic output also extends to his role as a chronicler and his engagement with cultural projects.
