Biography

Gutemberg Guarabyra was born in Barra, in the interior of Bahia, on November 20, 1947, standing out throughout his career as a musician, composer, writer, and poet. In 1966, he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he began his artistic career the following year alongside names like Luiz Carlos Sá and Sidney Miller. In 1967, he achieved great national prominence by winning the national phase of the 2nd International Song Festival with the song "Margarida".

Throughout his career, he consolidated fundamental partnerships for Brazilian popular music and was part of striking projects, such as the acclaimed trio Sá, Rodrix e Guarabyra, formed in 1971 alongside Luiz Carlos Sá and Zé Rodrix. As a composer, he authored expressive hits that marked generations, including songs created in collaboration with artists such as Flávio Venturini and Danilo Caymmi.

In addition to his intense work on stage and in the studio, Guarabyra worked as a music director and producer on television, besides acting as a columnist, chronicler, and author of fictional literary works. His artistic contribution spanned both the strengthening of the rural rock movement and the diffusion of poetry in Brazilian song.
