Biography

Flávio Augusto "Guto" Goffi Marquesini, better known as Guto Goffi, is a prominent Brazilian drummer born in Rio de Janeiro on August 9, 1962. He began playing drums in 1978 and went on to co-found the legendary rock band Barão Vermelho in 1982 alongside keyboardist Maurício Barros. Remaining with the group through all of its iterations, Goffi expanded his artistic contributions following the departure of frontman Cazuza, stepping into roles as a lyricist and producer for hits like "Puro êxtase" and "Meus bons amigos."

Beyond his work with Barão Vermelho, Goffi has maintained a vibrant solo career and engaged deeply with traditional Brazilian music. In 2001, during a hiatus of his main band, he established Maracatu Brasil, a drum and percussion school and shop located in Laranjeiras, Rio de Janeiro, dedicated to teaching new musicians and promoting traditional rhythms such as jongo and maracatu. His musical collaborations extend to instrumental projects like Bicho de Pau, the Guto Goffi Quinteto, and recordings alongside master percussionists Robertinho Silva and Laudir de Oliveira.

Goffi has continued to release solo material and explore various artistic mediums over the decades. He released his debut solo album Alimentar in 2012, followed by Bem in 2016 with his project Bando do Bem, C.A.O.S. in 2020, and Respirar in 2023, the latter reflecting on the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to his musical endeavors, he published his first book of poetry, "Quem alimenta quem?", in 2022, showcasing his own illustrations alongside his verses.
