Biography

Harmonia do Samba was a prominent Brazilian pagode baiano group formed in Salvador, Bahia, in 1993. Founded by Roque Cezar alongside Maestro Bimba and other musician friends in the neighborhood of Capelinha, the band originally set out to blend traditional samba with samba-reggae and regional Bahian rhythms, creating the signature sound of the pagode baiano movement. Their distinct fusion of percussion, brass, and traditional instrumentation established them as a foundational act in the region's vibrant musical landscape alongside peers like Xanddy, who joined as the principal vocalist in 1998.

Following Xanddy's arrival, the group embraced an original repertoire and signed with Abril Music, releasing their self-titled debut album in 1999. The record spawned major nationwide hits such as "Vem Neném", "Agachadinho", and "Elevador", catapulting the band to mainstream success. Subsequent releases like O Rodo further cemented their popularity, while tracks such as "Paradinha" and "Overdose de Carinho" became staples of Brazilian carnival culture. Their energetic live performances and charismatic stage presence earned them widespread acclaim, including Xanddy being named the best singer of the Salvador Carnival by Band Folia in 2004.

Throughout a career spanning nearly three decades, Harmonia do Samba released numerous hit albums and EPs, celebrating their milestone 20th anniversary in 2013 with a special live recording. The group's influence on modern Brazilian dance music and pagode baiano inspired subsequent generations of artists in the genre. In September 2022, Xanddy announced the official dissolution of the group, marking the end of an era for the beloved band and the beginning of his solo career.
