Biography

Heitor dos Prazeres was one of the great pioneers of Brazilian music and the visual arts, standing out as a composer, singer, instrumentalist, and painter. Born in Rio de Janeiro, he had an early contact with music through his family and traditional samba circles and Afro-Brazilian manifestations in Praça Onze, interacting with legendary figures such as Tia Ciata and Pixinguinha. Throughout his career, he was deeply connected to the founding of important carnival associations, having even chosen the blue and white colors for the Portela samba school.

His work as a composer yielded hundreds of songs recorded by major interpreters of the time, in addition to remarkable partnerships with fundamental names in national culture, such as Noel Rosa, with whom he composed the classic Pierrô Apaixonado. Beyond music, Heitor dos Prazeres stood out in popular painting starting in the 1930s, portraying the daily life of Rio's favelas and achieving international projection, even exhibiting his work in highly prestigious events such as the São Paulo Art Biennial.

The legacy of Heitor dos Prazeres remains alive in the history of samba and Brazilian art, being recognized for his invaluable contribution to the consolidation of the country's cultural identity. His residence and art functioned as true points of preservation and radiation of Afro-Brazilian culture, engaging in dialogue with intellectuals, poets, and musicians of his generation.
