Biography

Helio Delmiro was a prominent Brazilian guitarist and acoustic guitarist recognized as one of the leading exponents of jazz and Brazilian instrumental music. Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1947, he began his musical journey at an early age influenced by his brothers, initially playing the cavaquinho before dedicating himself fully to the acoustic guitar during the rise of Bossa Nova in the 1960s. Throughout his career, he collaborated with legendary figures of the Brazilian music scene such as César Camargo Mariano, Guinga, and Victor Assis Brasil, while also performing alongside international jazz greats like Sarah Vaughan and Paul Horn.

His 1981 album Samambaia, recorded in partnership with César Camargo Mariano, remains a landmark reference for Brazilian instrumental music. Delmiro's profound artistry earned him critical acclaim, including being awarded Best Instrumental Show of the Year by the newspaper O Globo in 1996 for his performance alongside Guinga. He spent his later years in Brasília, leaving behind a rich legacy of recordings and academic studies analyzing his unique synthesis of choro, jazz, and classical influences.
