Biography

Heraldo do Monte is a renowned Brazilian composer, arranger, and instrumentalist, born in Recife, Pernambuco. His musical journey began unusually when he was studying clarinet, an instrument he soon complemented by self-taught learning of the acoustic guitar, cavaquinho, and viola caipira. Moving to São Paulo, he worked at TV Tupi before joining the iconic Quarteto Novo alongside fundamental musicians of the instrumental scene such as Hermeto Pascoal, Airto Moreira, and Théo de Barros.

Quarteto Novo revolutionized the Brazilian music scene by fusing jazz harmonies and techniques with a sound deeply rooted in Northeastern culture. With the group, Heraldo participated in anthological arrangements and performances at television festivals, accompanying striking compositions by artists such as Edu Lobo and Geraldo Vandré.
