Biography

Herva Doce was a prominent Brazilian rock band formed in 1982 by musicians Marcelo Sussekind and Renato Ladeira. The group quickly gained national attention and achieved major success with their hit singles, notably their 1982 cover of "Erva Venenosa" and the 1985 smash hit "Amante Profissional". Their energetic sound made them a notable fixture of the Brazilian rock scene during the 1980s, even opening for international acts like Kiss at the Maracanã stadium in 1983.

Throughout their active years, the band underwent several lineup changes, featuring talented musicians such as Roberto Lly, Paul de Castro, Pena, and Fred Maciel. Their work intersected with other prominent figures of Brazilian music, including Ney Matogrosso—who recorded songs associated with the band's members—and Cazuza, for whom Renato Ladeira co-wrote hits like "Faz Parte do Meu Show". The group officially ended their run in the late 1980s after releasing their final studio album, Desastre Mental.

Decades later, former members attempted to recapture their musical spirit by forming a new project called Hervah in 2006 alongside other artists from the Rio de Janeiro music circuit. Although the original members eventually passed away—with Renato Ladeira and Roberto Lly dying in the mid-2010s—the legacy of Herva Doce remains cemented in the history of Brazilian rock. Their music continues to be remembered alongside contemporaries of the era, such as Bacamarte.
