Hierarchical Punishment is a Brazilian death metal and grindcore band formed in Santos, São Paulo, in March 1994. Over their nearly three decades of existence, they have established themselves as a significant force within the Brazilian underground metal scene. Initially aiming for a grindcore sound, the band evolved towards death metal, a shift influenced by circumstances such as a severe spinal surgery experienced by founding member Ricardo Grell, who transitioned from drummer to guitarist. This evolution allowed them to explore a more brutal and aggressive sonic territory.
