Biography
Hierofante Púrpura is a Brazilian psychedelic rock band formed in Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo, in 2005. Known for their experimental sound and poetic lyrics, the band stands out in the national independent scene. Throughout their trajectory, they have released several EPs and albums, including "Adubado" (2009), "Crise de Creize" (2009), "A Sutil Arte de Esculhambar Música Alheia" (2014) and "Disco Demência" (2016). The band has roots in the hardcore scene of Mogi das Cruzes, but evolved into a more psychedelic and experimental approach, exploring rich soundscapes and unique textures. The current lineup features Danilo Sevali (vocals, keyboards, baritone guitar), Helena Duarte (bass, vocals), Gabriel Lima (vocals, guitar) and Rodrigo Silva (drums, vocals). The sound of Hierofante Púrpura is frequently described as a hypnotic and surreal journey that invites the listener to explore the limits of perception. The band has collaborated with other artists and participated in festivals, consolidating their presence in the Brazilian musical scenery. They also explore the use of home recordings and cassette tapes in their work, adding a lo-fi and nostalgic character to their compositions.
The name "Hierofante Púrpura" refers to a figure from ancient Greek religions, the high priest of mystery cults, responsible for interpreting and revealing sacred secrets. This name choice reflects the enigmatic and exploratory nature of the band's music. The band has already shown interest in revisiting and reinterpreting songs by other artists, such as Yo La Tengo and Mr. Airplane Man, showing their versatility and appreciation for musical diversity. The work "Disco Demência" was recorded on analog tape at Mestre Felino studio, using a 16-track recorder that once belonged to Sérgio Dias, guitarist of Mutantes, which connects the band to an important lineage of Brazilian music. The band also released a split album with the group Alarde, demonstrating their active participation in the independent scene.
