Biography
Hildebrando Pereira Matos was a Brazilian composer, known for his partnership with Zé Keti, with whom he composed the famous marcha-rancho "Máscara Negra" in 1967. This song became a huge success during that year's carnival, winning the First Carnival Music Contest. The song sparked a controversy over authorship, with Hildebrando's family claiming the composition was solely his after his passing, which led Zé Keti to defend his copyright legally.
Matos was a member of Sbacem (Brazilian Society of Authors, Composers and Music Writers). In addition to "Máscara Negra", he also had other recorded compositions, such as "Santo Antônio Amigo" (in partnership with Nenéco and A. Gomes), "Primeira Escola" (with Joel de Almeida) and "Mulata (Rainha Do Meu Carnaval)" (with Felisberto Martins). His work is featured in several compilation albums and albums by other artists, such as "75 Anos de Samba", "A Maior Festa do Mundo" and "Caminhemos - Concerto para Dalva e Herivelto".
Although details about his personal life and date of birth or death are scarce in public sources, Hildebrando Pereira Matos left an important legacy in Brazilian popular music, especially in the samba and carnival marchinha genres, through his collaborations with other renowned composers.
