Biography
Holocausto is a Brazilian thrash metal band formed in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in 1985. The band is known for its extreme sound and controversial themes, making it one of the most controversial acts in national heavy metal.
The group was formed by Marco Antônio (bass), Valério Exterminator (vocals and guitar), and Rodrigo dos Anjos (guitar). After releasing a demo in 1985 and participating in the compilation "Warfare Noise I", Holocausto released its debut album, "Campo de Extermínio", in 1987. This record caused great controversy due to its lyrics describing Nazi atrocities in concentration camps, leading to accusations of antisemitism. The band has always maintained that the intention was to expose the horrors of the Holocaust.
Throughout its career, Holocausto went through several line-up changes and released albums such as "Blocked Minds" (1988) and "Negatives" (1993), exploring industrial influences on "Tozago as Deismno" (1993). The band reformed in 2004, releasing "De Volta ao Front" in 2005 and, in 2017, the EP "War Metal Massacre", returning to its black metal roots. The latest released album was "Diário de Guerra" in 2019. Holocausto is considered a milestone in the first generation of Brazilian metal, alongside bands like Sepultura, Vulcano, and Sarcófago.
