Biography

Hurtmold is a prominent Brazilian post-rock and math rock band established in São Paulo in 1998. The group's original lineup featured Maurício Takara, Guilherme Granado, Marcos Gerez, Mário Cappi, and Fernando Cappi, later expanding in 2003 with the addition of Rogério Martins. Their distinctive sound merges a powerful post-rock approach with extensive percussion, drawing deep inspiration from jazz, minimalism, punk rock, funk, electronic music, and traditional Brazilian regional rhythms. A notable hallmark of their live performances is the band members' dynamic practice of swapping instruments on stage.

Throughout their career, the band has collaborated with various notable figures in the independent music scene, including a celebrated partnership with Paulo Santos from Uakti on their 2016 album Curado. Over the years, Hurtmold has released several well-received studio albums such as Et Cetera, Cozido, Mestro, and Mils Crianças, alongside split releases and early demos. Their contributions to independent music have earned them critical recognition both domestically and internationally, cementing their legacy alongside contemporary artists like Maurício Takara.

As a cornerstone of São Paulo's underground independent rock community, the group frequently rehearsed and originated from the legendary El Rocha studio. Their music has reached audiences beyond Brazil, being featured on European compilations and prestigious rock rankings. Through constant experimentation and stylistic evolution, Hurtmold continues to be a vital reference point for experimental and instrumental rock music in Brazil.
