Biography

I. Kolman, born Isaac Kolman in Russia, was a significant figure in Brazilian popular music during the 1930s and 1940s. He was a composer, conductor, and instrumentalist, primarily known for his work on the saxophone.

Kolman was an integral part of the musical landscape, contributing as a composer and arranger for numerous recordings. He was a member of the Orquestra Pan American, with which he accompanied many artists on the Odeon label. His own recordings as a saxophonist include the choros "É certo que me amas?" and "Albertina," as well as his own compositions "Simple confession" and "La cinquantaine." He also recorded the choro "Não quero perder-te."

Beyond his instrumental contributions, Kolman led several prominent orchestras, including the orchestra at Lido and later the orchestra at Cassino da Urca. He accompanied notable artists such as Carmen Miranda and Raul Roulien, further solidifying his impact on Brazilian music. His compositions, such as "Auto-lotação," "Língua de prata," and "Foi um sonho," were recorded by artists like Francisco Alves, showcasing his versatility and influence.
