Biography

Iara Ferreira is a Brazilian singer and songwriter known for her extensive work in popular Brazilian music (MPB). Born in Itapira, São Paulo, she began her musical journey performing in Florianópolis in 2009 while studying Social Sciences at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC). Ferreira has established herself as a prolific lyricist, with a catalog nearing 300 songs, collaborating with approximately 80 other artists. Her compositions have been recorded and interpreted by notable musicians such as Yamandu Costa and Roberta Sá.

Ferreira's career is marked by a series of significant releases. In 2015, she released the album "Bené e Iaiá" in partnership with multi-instrumentalist Bernardo Diniz, for which she wrote all the lyrics. This album featured guest appearances by Joel Nascimento and Leila Pinheiro. The following year, she collaborated with composer Anna Paes on the CD "Miragem de Inaê," which included songs like "Canto pra Oyá" and "Choro de madrinha." Her solo debut album, "VERDEAMARELA," released in 2023, explores various Brazilian rhythms and themes, reflecting her deep connection to the country's culture and social issues.

Beyond her recording career, Iara Ferreira is also an educator and researcher. She has studied at institutions like CETA (Center for the Study of the Alexander Technique) and the Escola Portátil de Música. Her music often blends MPB with popular traditions and harmonic experimentation, earning her recognition and a dedicated following within the Brazilian music scene. She currently resides in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, and continues to be an active presence in Brazilian music through performances, collaborations, and new releases.
