Biography

Iara Rennó is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist born in São Paulo. Coming from a deeply musical family, she is the daughter of composers Carlos Rennó and Alzira Espíndola. She began her professional trajectory performing alongside her mother in the mid-1990s and later spent several years singing in Itamar Assumpção's band.

Throughout her career, Rennó has established herself as a versatile and prolific artist, releasing numerous solo records and collaborating with various groups. She co-founded the band DonaZica alongside Andreia Dias and Anelis Assumpção, releasing acclaimed albums such as Composição and Filme Brasileiro. Her ambitious conceptual work Macunaíma Ópera Tupi drew inspiration from Mário de Andrade's classic literature and featured notable collaborations with artists like Tom Zé, Siba, and Arrigo Barnabé.

Beyond her extensive discography, which includes solo projects like I A R A and the twin albums Arco and Flecha, Rennó has composed extensively for other interpreters and expanded into literature and children's media. Her songs have been recorded by prominent Brazilian icons such as Elza Soares, Ney Matogrosso, and Gaby Amarantos. She continues to be an influential figure in the contemporary Brazilian independent music scene, exploring themes ranging from feminist discourse to Afro-Brazilian culture.
