Biography
Igor Graziano Cavalera, born September 4, 1970, is a Brazilian musician renowned for his influential drumming in the heavy metal scene. He co-founded the iconic band Sepultura with his brother Max Cavalera in 1984, becoming its longest-standing original member until his departure in 2006. Cavalera's drumming style evolved from the raw, fast-paced thrash metal of Sepultura's early years to incorporating tribal elements, notably on albums like 'Chaos A.D.' and 'Roots.' This innovative approach significantly contributed to the band's global success and cemented his reputation as a powerful and versatile percussionist.
Following his departure from Sepultura, Igor Cavalera has explored a diverse range of musical projects, showcasing his adaptability and artistic curiosity. He reunited with his brother Max to form Cavalera Conspiracy, continuing their shared musical legacy. Additionally, Cavalera has delved into electronic music, forming the DJ duo Mixhell with his wife Laima Leyton and collaborating with the Belgian electronic band Soulwax. His ventures also include the noise duo Petbrick, demonstrating a continued drive to experiment beyond his metal roots.
Cavalera's career is marked by a constant evolution and a deep passion for rhythm and sound. Beyond his extensive work in metal, his exploration of electronic music, DJing, and production highlights his multifaceted artistry. He has also been recognized for his personal style, launching his own fashion label, "Cavalera." Igor Cavalera's enduring impact on music is a testament to his innovative spirit and his ability to transcend genres while remaining a formidable force in the drumming world.
