Biography

Inocentes is one of the pioneering and most influential Brazilian punk rock bands, originally formed in August 1981 in São Paulo. The group emerged from the underground periphery of the city, bringing together former members of early punk outfits like Restos de Nada and Condutores de Cadáver. Led for decades by vocalist and guitarist Clemente Nascimento, the band quickly established itself as a cornerstone of the Brazilian punk movement, contributing tracks to the historic 1982 compilation Grito Suburbano alongside other seminal acts like Cólera and Olho Seco.

Throughout the 1980s, the band evolved beyond traditional punk constraints, embracing post-punk and alternative rock elements as part of the broader "rock paulista" scene alongside groups such as Ira!, Patife Band, and Legião Urbana. In 1986, with the help of Branco Mello of Titãs, Inocentes signed with Warner Music and released their landmark mini-LP Pânico em SP. This achievement made them the very first Brazilian punk rock band to be signed by a major multinational record label, bringing underground frustrations and social commentary to mainstream attention.

Over the following decades, Inocentes continued to release influential albums, experimenting with elements of rap, hardcore, and acoustic arrangements while retaining their foundational punk ethos. They shared stages with international legends like the Ramones and Sex Pistols, cementing their status as national punk royalty. Collaborations with urban figures such as Thaíde & DJ Hum further bridged the gap between rock and hip hop in São Paulo, ensuring the band's enduring relevance across generations of Brazilian independent music.
