Biography

The duo Irmãs Freitas, comprised of sisters Alice de Freitas Machado (Ana Lúcia) and Ilda de Freitas Machado (Luciana), emerged from Taquaral, Goiás, in 1976. They began their musical journey performing in circuses and local festivals, facing initial parental disapproval that eventually turned into support. Their father, João de Freitas Machado, became a significant contributor, composing songs for their repertoire.

Their professional debut was at the Circo Pingo de Ouro, and in 1978, they released their first LP, "Canoeira do Araguaia," which garnered significant success and led to a contract with the Chantecler record label. Throughout their career, they collaborated with accordionist Voninho, releasing four albums together. The sisters are recognized as "Muses of Caipira Music" for their distinctive style and contribution to Brazilian sertanejo music.

Over the decades, the duo has experienced lineup changes, with Luciana continuing alongside her daughter, Ouriana, in more recent formations. Irmãs Freitas have released numerous albums, cementing their legacy as one of the most important female duos in Brazilian sertanejo music, celebrated for their authentic "moda de viola" style and enduring appeal.
