Biography
Irmãs Pagãs was a Brazilian vocal duo formed by sisters Rosina Cozzolino (Rosina Pagã) and Elvira Cozzolino (Elvira Pagã). Born in Itararé, São Paulo, the sisters moved to Rio de Janeiro in their childhood. They began their artistic careers in the 1930s, performing in radio shows and participating in films.
The duo gained prominence in the Brazilian music scene of the 1930s, recording numerous songs and performing in various venues. They were known for their interpretations of samba and carnival marches. Their career as a duo concluded in 1940 when Elvira married, leading to the end of their musical partnership. Together, they recorded approximately 14 records and appeared in films such as "Alô, Alô, Carnaval" (1936) and "Cidade-Mulher" (1936).
Following the dissolution of the duo, both sisters pursued individual careers. Rosina continued as a solo singer and actress, while Elvira became a renowned vedete in the Brazilian theater scene, known for her bold performances and for being one of the first women to wear a bikini in public in Brazil. Elvira also ventured into painting later in life.
