Biography

Isaías Sávio was born in Montevideo in 1900 and began his musical journey studying piano before dedicating himself to classical guitar, having been a student of Conrado Koch and performing concerts throughout South America. In 1931, he settled in São Paulo, where he took up the chair of classical guitar at the Conservatório Dramático e Musical de São Paulo, becoming a naturalized Brazilian in 1963.

In addition to his intense activity as a concert performer and pedagogue, he stood out as a remarkable composer with several works inspired by Brazilian folklore. His contribution to guitar teaching was fundamental to the training of important names in Brazilian music, having taught musicians such as Luiz Floriano Bonfá and Toquinho.

His influence on Brazilian musical pedagogy was consolidated through his various students who became great concert performers, composers, and arrangers, such as Marco Pereira, Antonio Carlos Barbosa Lima, and Maria Lívia São Marcos. Isaías Sávio passed away in São Paulo in 1977, leaving a lasting legacy in the history of classical guitar in the country.
