Biography

Itiberê Luiz Zwarg was born in São Paulo on January 24, 1950, entering the musical world through the influence of his father, Antônio Bruno da Rocha Zwarg. By the late 1960s, he was already performing professionally in various instrumental music ensembles before establishing a remarkably enduring partnership. In 1977, he joined the band accompanying the legendary musician Hermeto Pascoal, becoming the longest-tenuring member of Hermeto's group.

Expanding his artistic endeavors, Zwarg began his career as a composer and arranger in 1992, notably contributing to Gilson Macedo's album Variasons and collaborating with artists such as the Maogani quartet and singer Ivetty Souza. His creative vision further expanded in 1999 when he founded the Itiberê Orquestra Família, initially composed of former students from the Pro-Arte music seminars in Rio de Janeiro. The immense success of these educational workshops led him to travel throughout Brazil, teaching and frequently composing specially tailored arrangements for his students.

Alongside his large orchestral project, Zwarg has maintained active performance schedules with smaller ensemble configurations, including the compact group known as Itiberê & Grupo, which stems directly from his broader orchestral family. Through his decades-long dedication to instrumental music, composition, and pedagogy, he remains a vital figure in the landscape of Brazilian creative music.
