Biography

Ivan Santos was a Brazilian singer-songwriter, composer, arranger, and actor, born in Recife, Pernambuco, on July 1, 1953. He passed away in Frankfurt, Germany, on November 11, 2025.

Santos began his musical journey in the northeastern Brazilian state of Paraíba, where he was exposed to a rich tapestry of folk culture, blending indigenous, African, Portuguese, and Arab heritage. He later moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he spent 13 years as a professional musician and songwriter, also composing for television, theater, and musicals. His songs have been recorded by renowned Brazilian artists such as Ney Matogrosso, Lenine, and Elba Ramalho.

Internationally, Santos gained recognition for his unique "Brazilian World Pop" sound, which fused samba, blues, funk, baião, and even Indian sitar influences. He collaborated frequently with Brazilian pop star Lenine, earning a Latin Grammy Award in 2005 for "Best Portuguese Language Song" for their work on "Ninguém Faz Idéia." He was also nominated for another Grammy in 2012 for "Amor é pra quem ama." Santos lived in Frankfurt, Germany, for over fifteen years, where he continued to perform and collaborate with musicians across Europe, maintaining a strong connection to the Brazilian music scene.
