Biography

Ivânia Catarina was a Brazilian singer and songwriter born in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, on June 2, 1973. She was the sister of the well-known singer and composer Vander Lee. Her musical journey began in childhood, influenced by her father, José Delfino, who played the guitar, and her mother, Efigênia, who sang songs from the radio.

Catarina pursued her passion for music while also studying Pedagogy. She took vocal lessons with Eládio Pérez-González and began participating in festivals, which led to opportunities to record jingles and work with other composers. Her collaboration with guitarist and composer Carlos Gomes was significant, and together they released albums such as "Sabor de Pecado" (1997) and "Poranduba" (1999). Her distinctive voice and interpretive talent earned her numerous awards and recognition in the Brazilian music scene.

Throughout her career, Ivânia Catarina released several albums, including "Ivânia Catarina" (2003) and "Naquele verbo agora" (2005), where she featured alongside her brother Vander Lee. She was known for her heartfelt performances and her ability to connect with audiences through her songs. Sadly, Ivânia Catarina passed away on August 29, 2015, at the age of 42, after a battle with cancer. Her legacy continues to be celebrated by fans and fellow musicians, with tributes and posthumous releases keeping her music alive.
