Biography

Ivete Siqueira was a prominent Brazilian radio singer who achieved success during the late 1950s and early 1960s. Born in Nilópolis, she began her musical journey by participating in amateur talent shows on Rádio Tupi and Rádio Nacional, initially performing under the pseudonym "Angelina Miranda" to hide her singing from her disapproving mother. After winning the prestigious "Papel Carbono" contest unanimously in 1957, she signed with RCA Victor and launched her professional career, gaining acclaim for her interpretations of boleros and tangos, much like her contemporaries Dalva de Oliveira and Ângela Maria.

Throughout her active years, Ivete recorded numerous notable tracks, including her biggest hit, the tango "Incerteza," as well as boleros such as "Recordação do Passado" and mambos like "Finalmente." Her rich repertoire also encompassed fox-canções, beguines, and sambas-canção, working alongside notable composers and maestros of the era. However, her promising radio career was abruptly cut short in 1962 due to major budget cuts and structural changes at Rádio Nacional, which replaced live orchestras and vocalists with recorded music libraries.

Refusing to submit to a voice test after a year away from the airwaves, Ivete retired from active singing to dedicate herself to her family as a homemaker, though she remained connected to the radio community through her friendship with host Gerdal dos Santos. She passed away in June 2013 following a pulmonary infection, leaving behind a cherished legacy in the golden age of Brazilian radio.
