Biography

Ivo Meirelles is a prominent Brazilian singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist born in Rio de Janeiro. He is widely recognized for his innovative musical fusions, blending traditional samba with pop, soul, and funk elements, creating a unique sound that connects deeply with Brazilian culture.

Throughout his career, Meirelles has maintained a strong connection with the Estação Primeira de Mangueira samba school, serving as both a composer of award-winning carnival anthems and later as the school's president. In 1995, he founded the percussion group Funk'n'Lata, which further expanded his artistic horizons by mixing samba rhythms with carioca funk and soul. Over the decades, he has collaborated with numerous notable Brazilian artists, including Fernanda Abreu, Lobão, and Seu Jorge.

In addition to his contributions to carnival and popular music, Meirelles has released several solo albums and worked as a television commentator and talent show judge. His restless creativity continues to push musical boundaries, encompassing projects that merge samba with diverse genres such as sertanejo and northeastern rhythms.
