Biography

Jacó e Jacozinho was a Brazilian country music (sertanejo) duo formed by brothers Antonio Jacob and Amado Jacob. Born in Assis, São Paulo, they were the sons of Gabriel Jacob, known as Jacó da Viola, a renowned catireiro from Paraná. The duo began their musical journey with Benedito Jacob and Amado Jacob, recording their first 78 rpm records in the early 1960s. Later, Benedito was replaced by Antonio, who remained as Jacó until his passing in 1981. The lineup featuring Antonio and Amado Jacob was the best known and most enduring, marking the duo's peak in the 1960s and 1970s.

The duo stood out for their peculiar vocalization, featuring the use of dissonances and tonal shifts, which set them apart from other sertanejo duos of the time. Jacó e Jacozinho hosted a program on Rádio Nacional do Paraná and achieved great success, being considered one of the duos that most influenced Chitãozinho e Xororó, who were fans of theirs. They recorded around 200 songs and released several LPs through the Continental record label, including "Ninho de cobra", "Ontem e hoje", "Terra bruta", and "Viola está tinindo".

The career of Jacó e Jacozinho was marked by successes as well as difficult moments, including the passing of Antonio Jacob in 1981, which brought the main duo's trajectory to an end. However, the musical legacy of the Jacob family continued with later lineups, such as "Jacó e Jacozito", formed by Pedro Jacob (brother of Antonio and Amado) and his son Pedro Rafael Jacob, who kept traditional roots sertanejo music alive.
