Biography
João Vitor Romania Balbino, professionally known as Jão, was born in Américo Brasiliense, in the interior of São Paulo, on November 3, 1994. Raised in a family environment open to feelings, he found in music a form of expression influenced by great names of MPB and national rock, such as Marisa Monte and Cazuza. He moved to the capital of São Paulo to study Advertising and Propaganda at the University of São Paulo (USP), a period during which he began posting covers on YouTube and started his professional music career with the support of friends like Pedro Tófani.
After signing with Universal Music and releasing his first singles and EPs, Jão achieved national notoriety with the success of "Imaturo". His debut studio album, Lobos, came out in 2018, followed by the records Anti-Herói (2019) and Pirata (2021), the latter earning him Latin Grammy nominations and major tours across the country. Consolidated as one of the leading names in contemporary Brazilian pop music, he continued to break records with the release of his fourth album, Super, in 2023, selling out stadiums and arenas with grand productions.
Throughout his career, Jão has collaborated with several prominent artists from the Brazilian scene, such as Anitta, Ludmilla, and Luísa Sonza. His musical work oscillates between romantic and confessional pop, accumulating important awards such as MTV Miaw Brasil and the Multishow Brazilian Music Award, in addition to building a legion of loyal fans throughout Brazil.
