Biography

Jerry Adriani, stage name of Jair Alves de Sousa, was born in the Brás neighborhood of São Paulo in 1947. He began his artistic career as the lead singer of the group Os Rebeldes, before establishing himself as one of the great names of Jovem Guarda. Throughout his career, he stood out not only as a romantic and rock and roll singer, but also as a host of television programs such as Excelsior a Go Go and A Grande Parada. He had a strong connection with Raul Seixas, who produced some of his records at the turn of the 1970s and was a member of his backing band.

In addition to his traditional repertoire linked to rock and romantic ballads, Jerry Adriani demonstrated great versatility by moving through different musical strands. In the 1970s, he ventured into soul music and undertook international tours in several countries across the Americas. In the following years, he recorded striking tributes, such as the album dedicated to Elvis Presley and the acclaimed record Forza Sempre, in which he performed songs by the band Legião Urbana translated into Italian.

The singer passed away in April 2017, in Rio de Janeiro, a victim of pancreatic cancer, leaving an indelible legacy in pop culture and Brazilian music. His artistic collection was later donated to Funarj for historical preservation. Throughout his journey, he lived and worked with various exponents of national music, including Hyldon, José Augusto, Roberto Menescal, and Zeca Baleiro.
