Biography

Jesus Belmiro Mariano, born in Taiaçu, São Paulo, on May 10, 1943, is a highly respected composer in the Brazilian sertanejo music scene. Known as "Poeta Matuto" (Country Poet), he began his musical career in 1969, dedicating himself fully to songwriting after retiring as a First Sergeant in the Military Police. Belmiro has an extensive catalog, estimating over a thousand compositions, with more than 100 recorded by numerous artists.

His collaborations include legendary figures such as Tião Carreiro, with whom he partnered for 16 years, and Paraíso, a partnership that spanned 30 years. His songs have been immortalized by renowned duos like Tião Carreiro e Pardinho, Trio Parada Dura, and César e Paulinho. Among his most celebrated works are "Viola Vermelha" (Red Viola), "Preto Velho" (Old Black Man), and the hit "A Loira do Carro Branco" (The Blonde in the White Car).

Belmiro's contributions to Brazilian music were recognized with a special tribute on the program "Viola, minha viola" in 2005, hosted by Inezita Barroso. He continues to be an active composer, residing in Monte Alto, São Paulo, and remains a significant figure in the preservation and evolution of traditional sertanejo music.
