Biography

João Bosco & Vinícius is a Brazilian sertanejo duo formed by João Bosco Homem de Carvalho Filho and Vinícius Fernando Karlinke. They are widely recognized as pioneers of the "sertanejo universitário" (university sertanejo) movement, which brought a more urban and youthful sound to traditional Brazilian country music. The duo's journey began in their childhood in Coxim, Mato Grosso do Sul, where they met at the age of ten. Initially, they competed as solo artists in a local song festival in 1993, tying for second place. Encouraged by friends and family, they eventually decided to form a duo, realizing their strong musical chemistry.

Their move to Campo Grande in 1999, where they pursued higher education in dentistry (João Bosco) and physiotherapy (Vinícius), significantly shaped their career. The university environment became a primary audience, contributing to the "sertanejo universitário" label. Their debut album, "Acústico no Bar," released in 2003, achieved considerable success in Mato Grosso do Sul, selling 40,000 copies. This marked the beginning of a prolific discography that includes numerous studio albums, live recordings, and DVDs.

Over their extensive career, João Bosco & Vinícius have released many hit songs, such as "Chora, Me Liga," "Curtição," "Sem Esse Coração," and "Não Era Você." They have received critical acclaim, including a Latin Grammy nomination and a win for Best Sertanejo Music Album. Their music has resonated with a broad audience, leading to international tours and a significant presence in Brazilian popular culture. The duo continues to be a relevant force in the sertanejo music scene, adapting to new trends while staying true to their roots.
