Biography

João Sérgio Batista Corrêa Filho, professionally known as João Carreiro, was a prominent Brazilian singer and songwriter born in Cuiabá. He initially performed as a solo artist before achieving mainstream success by forming the highly influential sertanejo duo João Carreiro e Capataz alongside Hilton Cesar Serafim. Together, they captured the hearts of younger audiences and achieved widespread recognition with hits like "Bruto, Rústico e Sistemático," which was featured in the telenovela Paraíso.

After battling severe depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder, João stepped away from the duo to focus on his health, eventually returning to music as a solo artist. Throughout his career, he collaborated with notable sertanejo acts such as Jads & Jadson and Fiduma & Jeca, leaving a lasting legacy in Brazilian country music. His distinct rustic style and memorable compositions cemented his status as a beloved figure in the sertanejo genre until his untimely passing in January 2024.
