Biography

João Fernando Gomes Valério, artistically known as João Gomes, was born in Serrita, in the interior of Pernambuco, on July 31, 2002. The son of a female farmer and a barber, he spent his childhood in Petrolina, where he sang in the church choir and began to gain recognition on the internet while studying at the Federal Institute of Sertão Pernambucano. With influences marked by names like Belchior and Cartola, the artist emerged nationally in 2021 with the release of his debut album, propelled by successes on TikTok and Spotify such as "Meu Pedaço de Pecado", "Se For Amor", and "Eu Tenho a Senha".

The singer quickly established himself as one of the main names in piseiro and vaquejada forró, breaking records on streaming platforms and packing large performances across the country, such as his show at Marco Zero in Recife and participations in festivals like Rock in Rio. Throughout his career, João Gomes has collaborated with several prominent artists from the Brazilian scene, such as Xand Avião, Os Barões da Pisadinha, Tarcísio do Acordeon, Vitor Fernandes, Vanessa da Mata, L7nnon, Fagner, Jota.pê, Mestrinho, and Roberto Carlos. His international and national prominence also extended to the Latin Grammy, an award in which he was nominated successively in the category of Best Portuguese Language Roots Music Album, emerging victorious with the collaborative album Dominguinho.

In addition to his strong presence on music charts and in the soundtracks of soap operas, series, and films, the singer has been an active voice in defending the appreciation of Northeastern music and forró. He was responsible for inaugurating the Tiny Desk Brasil program and has accumulated expressive awards, including honors at the Prêmio Multishow. Alongside his consolidated artistic trajectory, he built a family with Ary Mirelle, with whom he has two children, Jorge and Joaquim.
