Biography

João Mineiro e Marciano was a Brazilian sertanejo duo formed by João Sant'Ângelo (João Mineiro) and José Marciano (Marciano). The duo was formed in 1970, after João Mineiro ended an eight-year partnership with Zé Goiás, with whom he sang in a more humorous and traditional style. Marciano, in turn, was looking for a partner to form a duo focused on romantic sertanejo, finding in João Mineiro the perfect fit.

The duo's first record was released in 1973, with João Mineiro paying for the pressing. National success came in 1981, with the recording of "Esta Noite Como Lembrança", which boosted the duo's career. In the 1980s, they consolidated their success with songs like "Seu Amor Ainda é Tudo" and "Ainda Ontem Chorei de Saudade", even hosting a TV show on SBT called "João Mineiro e Marciano Especial".

The duo went on international tours, including an excursion through the United States in 1990, and recorded a Spanish-language album in 1991. Despite continuous success, João Mineiro and Marciano separated in 1993. João Mineiro pursued a career with other duos, such as João Mineiro and Mariano, until his death in 2012. Marciano also pursued a solo career, passing away in 2019. The work of João Mineiro and Marciano is considered fundamental to the consolidation of romanticism in Brazilian sertanejo music.
