Biography

João Paulo & Daniel was a highly successful Brazilian sertanejo duo formed in 1980 by José Henrique dos Reis (João Paulo) and José Daniel Camillo (Daniel). Both natives of Brotas, São Paulo, they began their musical journey as rivals in regional festivals before realizing their voices blended well. Their official formation as a duo occurred in 1981, and they initially performed in circos and nightclubs.

Their debut album, "Amor Sempre Amor," was released in 1985, but it was with their third album, "João Paulo & Daniel Vol. 3," released in 1989, that they began to gain significant traction with hits like "Aos Trancos e Barrancos" and "Desejo de Amar." The duo's career gained substantial momentum in the 1990s, with albums like "João Paulo & Daniel Vol. 5" (1994) achieving gold and platinum status. Their biggest hit, "Estou Apaixonado," a Portuguese version of "Estoy Enamorado," released in 1996, became a massive success, topping radio charts and being featured as the theme song for the Globo telenovela "Explode Coração."

The duo's career was tragically cut short on September 12, 1997, when João Paulo died in a car accident. During their career, João Paulo & Daniel released eight studio albums, sold over 5 million records, and received multiple gold and platinum certifications. After João Paulo's death, Daniel continued his career as a solo artist, achieving further success in the Brazilian sertanejo music scene.
