Biography

João Pedro da Silva Borges, artistically known as João Pedro Borges or Sinhô, was born in São Luís, Maranhão, on June 23, 1947. He is a renowned Brazilian classical guitarist, composer, and music producer, with a well-established career both in Brazil and internationally. His musical trajectory received a significant boost in the 1970s, when he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he came into contact with important teachers and musicians connected to choro and concert music.

Borges is widely recognized as one of the greatest Brazilian guitarists of all time. His participation in the Camerata Carioca, under the direction of Radamés Gnattali, was a milestone in the renewal of choro in Brazil, with which he recorded albums and performed numerous concerts throughout the country. His talent transcends borders, having released the album "Clássicos Latino-Americanos" in 2005, recorded in France. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with several prominent instrumentalists and maintained a prolific solo career.

In addition to his work as an instrumentalist, João Pedro Borges has contributed to the musical education of new generations, having taught for years at the Escola de Música do Maranhão. His dedication to music and education earned him honors, such as the Diploma Ademilde Fonseca de Mérito no Choro in 2015.
