Biography

John Ulhoa is a Brazilian musician, songwriter, and record producer born in Paracatu, but raised in Belo Horizonte since childhood. A graduate of the UFMG School of Fine Arts, he began his career in music in the 1980s by founding the band Sexo Explícito, with which he recorded albums and gained prominence in the independent scene, even receiving the award for best guitarist of the year from Bizz magazine.

In 1992, alongside Fernanda Takai, he co-founded the acclaimed alternative rock band Pato Fu, in which he acts as a songwriter, electric guitarist, acoustic guitarist, and electronic programmer. With the resounding success of the band from Minas Gerais, John consolidated his career in music production, setting up his own studio in Belo Horizonte where he worked with various names in Brazilian music, such as Zélia Duncan and Arnaldo Baptista.

In addition to his extensive discography with Pato Fu, which includes landmark albums like Rotomusic de Liquidificapum and Ruído Rosa, he expanded his artistic work into soundtracks. In 2013, he released his first solo work, the soundtrack for the Grupo Giramundo show Alice in Wonderland.
